Joshua was formerly working at Pathlight School. His responsibilities were to assist the teachers and therapists in conducting class curriculum and creating resources for his students. He worked with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and various other comorbid disorders. He learnt how to work with these students individually, in a classroom environment and how to monitor their progress and ensure that they are able to grasp relevant concepts effectively. The students’ curriculum follows closely to that of an MOE curriculum and this has helped Joshua to understand the requirements of both a mainstream and a special needs school.
In addition, Joshua has had the opportunity to interact with children from the Down’s Syndrome Association. As part of Kent Ridge Hall’s 35th anniversary charity run, he has helped to facilitate interactions with children from DSA and effectively engage them in the activities organised for them.
In conclusion, Joshua’s time in NUS and Pathlight has equipped him with the tools required to support and teach children’s and youths with special needs. These qualities and experiences are ideal in rendering assistance to the child.
