Meet the Specialists
Christa pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Arts (Psychology) at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
During her course of study, Christa studied many relevant modules such as Developmental Psychology, Abnormal Child Psychology and Clinical Psychology, which equipped her not only with a deeper understanding of the various developmental disorders, but also, the necessary skills useful when working with children of special needs. With the knowledge of developmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Global Developmental Delay (GDD), Christa is able to better understand children with these needs, and she hopes to be able to make a positive impact in the lives of these children as she believes that they have great potentials as well.
During her undergraduate years, Christa was also a research assistant and was involved in the testing of children ranging from 4 to 6 years old, of different backgrounds. Her experience as a research assistant not only provided her with skills on how to adjust her style in order to engage children of different personalities and abilities, but also, provided her with opportunities to liaise with parents and teachers, which she believes to be of great importance in a child’s development.
Besides working as a research assistant, Christa’s interest and commitment in working with children is evident through her volunteer experiences. For example, Christa volunteers as a tuition teacher for underprivileged children on a weekly basis. During her two years as a volunteer, she had opportunities working with classes of lower primary students, including children with different needs. Her teaching experience taught her skills on how to manage children’s behaviors and allowed her to better understand the needs of children.
Furthermore, she was also involved in a Youth Expedition, where she was provided with the opportunity to embark on an overseas trip to provide support to refugee children. Through her interactions with a wide range of children of different needs, backgrounds and abilities, Christa believes that every child is special and unique in their own ways and it is her dream to be able to help children realize their own individual potentials and pursue their dreams
