Meet the Specialists
Denise pursued a bachelor’s degree in Social Science (Psychology) at James Cook University. During her course of study, Denise studied many modules such as Developmental Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, and Cognitive Neuroscience which equipped her not only with a deeper understanding of the various developmental disorders, but also, the necessary skills useful when working with children of special needs. With the knowledge of developmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Global Developmental Delay (GDD), Denise has accrued the necessary knowledge and skills that allow for a deep and cohesive understanding of relevant issues so as to maximize the well-being and happiness of these children.
- After her graduation, Denise joined Nurture Pods as a Behavioural therapist and has been involved in working with children on the autism spectrum. This has been done through school shadowing and one to one sessions with children ranging from 4 to 6 years old. Through her therapy sessions, Denise has learned that every child presents different needs and personalities, therefore requiring a different teaching/therapy approach individually. She has shown capability in being adaptable and is committed to formulating the best methods for each unique child and situation.
- Besides working as a behavioural therapist, Denise’s interest and commitment in working with children and the youth is evident through her work experience. She has experience working as a youth worker with youths at-risk and as a teacher aid for a science holiday programme for children aged 5 to 12. In her varying posts, she had opportunities working with children from different backgrounds, caring for them individually, and also facilitating group sessions. With the firm belief that no child, no matter how different or misunderstood, should be forsaken a rich and positive childhood development, she brings a unique sense of empathy and determination to each individual.
